Going solar lowers your TNB bill for 25 years or more — and the SuRIA Home rebate pays you RM600 per kWac, up to a RM3,000 ceiling, for doing it under the Solar ATAP scheme. TNB deposits the rebate straight into your own bank account, first-come, first-served, and the window closes on 31 December 2026 or once the RM150 million pot runs dry. Stacked on top of this government rebate, Astern Technologies runs its own extra of up to RM4,000 (outright purchase only, limited quota, terms & conditions apply), taking the total to as much as RM7,000.

Savings & the rebate

How much can home solar save me each month?
By generating your own electricity by day and earning credit for what you export, your TNB bill falls month after month — usually for 25 years or more over the life of a quality system. The exact saving depends on your usage and system size.
What does the SuRIA Home rebate add on top?
On top of your bill savings, going solar earns RM600 for each 1 kWac of declared installed capacity, capped at RM3,000. A 5 kWac system collects the full RM3,000; anything larger still receives the RM3,000 maximum. Our rebate guide has the full breakdown.
Is the rebate paid once or on an ongoing basis?
Just once. It's a single cash rebate, one claim per eligible customer, deposited by TNB into your own bank account. Your bill savings, though, continue for the life of the system.
What if I install a system bigger than 5 kWac?

How long is the SuRIA Home programme open?
It runs first-come, first-served until 31 December 2026, or until the RM150 million pot is fully used up — whichever lands first. Installing early is strongly advised.
Does the rebate cut my installation cost up front?
No. TNB pays it to you after your home solar system is commissioned and verified. It isn't knocked off the installer's invoice — it's cash into your own bank account.
How does the total reach RM7,000?
By stacking two separate rebates toward the cost of going solar: the RM3,000 government SuRIA Home rebate (RM600 per kWac, capped at RM3,000, paid by TNB) and the up to RM4,000 Astern Technologies extra. RM3,000 + RM4,000 = RM7,000.
What exactly is the Astern Technologies extra?
A private promotional rebate of up to RM4,000 from Astern Technologies, separate from the government SuRIA Home rebate. Outright purchase only, limited quota, terms & conditions apply. The Astern offer opens 1 June 2026 first-come, first-served. It's never guaranteed.

Eligibility

Can I claim the rebate when I go solar?
Yes, if you're a Malaysian citizen, an individual TNB customer on the Domestic Tariff (not a business), your Solar ATAP system is commissioned with TNB by 31 December 2026, and you've never taken a SolaRIS cash rebate. Can a company or business claim it?
No. It's for individual TNB customers on the Domestic Tariff only. Accounts under companies or on commercial or industrial tariffs don't qualify.
I had solar under the old SolaRIS scheme — am I still in?
No. Having already collected a cash rebate under SolaRIS rules you out of the SuRIA Home rebate. It's limited to one per customer.
Can I claim if my home is rented?
The rebate goes to the TNB-registered Domestic Tariff customer who is a Malaysian citizen, and the bank account used for payment must belong to that registered customer. Always check your own situation on the official TNB and SEDA channels.

Solar ATAP

What is Solar ATAP?
Solar ATAP (Accelerated Transition Action Programme) is the scheme Malaysian homeowners use to go solar — fitting rooftop panels and offsetting their electricity bills. It took over from the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme and is run by SEDA Malaysia, with TNB handling grid connection. More on our Solar ATAP page.
How does Solar ATAP differ from NEM?
NEM offset exported energy one-to-one. Solar ATAP instead credits exported energy at the System Marginal Price (SMP), a market-based rate that shifts over time. Solar ATAP took effect on 1 January 2026.
Do I need Solar ATAP to get the rebate?
Yes. The SuRIA Home rebate is only on offer for home solar systems commissioned under Solar ATAP with TNB by 31 December 2026.
What size system should I install?
Most Malaysian homes fit between 3 kWac and 6 kWac, depending on roof space and electricity use. A 5 kWac system reaches the full RM3,000 SuRIA Home rebate. We size yours to your actual usage at the free assessment.

Getting installed & paid

Who actually pays out?
TNB deposits the rebate straight into the registered customer's own local bank account, within seven working days of verification. SuRIA Home designs and installs your system and guides you — we never pay or claim the rebate for you.
How will I be told to claim?
From 1 June 2026, TNB contacts eligible customers in waves through their TNB-registered email once the Solar ATAP Welcome Letter is out. You then provide your chosen local bank account details for payment. The full walkthrough is on our how to claim page.
How soon is the rebate paid?
Once TNB verifies your details, the rebate reaches your own local bank account within seven working days.
Does SuRIA Home touch the rebate money?
No. TNB pays the rebate directly to you. SuRIA Home designs, installs and commissions your system and guides you through the steps, but we never request or handle your rebate money.
Is the rebate guaranteed?
No. Availability hinges on Government allocation and terms, runs first-come, first-served, and is never guaranteed. The RM150 million pot may empty before 31 December 2026. Always confirm current details on the official TNB and SEDA websites.
